Brocton elementary has been implementing the Science of Reading in and out of reading class. First graders practiced reading skills in the STEM lab while also learning about the sun and shadows. As part of this Science unit, students built shadow puppet theaters, made shadow puppets, and worked on reading fluency by practicing and performing a Readers' Theater puppet show.

Volunteer Opportunities through Prevention Works

On Monday March 24, 2024 through March 28, 2025 BCS will be participating in "Between the Bells Week" inspired by To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA), an organization dedicated to supporting those struggling with mental health issues, addiction, self-harm, and suicide.
Between the Bells Week is designed to foster awareness, conversation, and support for mental health within our school community. The theme draws inspiration from the idea that healing and recovery often happen in the quiet moments between the “louder” experiences of life. In this case, the term "between the bells" symbolizes the space between class periods, representing the small moments in between challenges where students can reflect, reset, and access support.
Please note that the lessons are customized to align with the age group and the appropriateness of sensitive topics.
If there are any question or concerns regarding your childs paricipation during this interactive week, please reach out to the Social Work Suite or High School Office.

Our gratitude goes to Mr. Jason Delcamp, Miss Judy Wroda, Mrs. Melanie Ulinger, Ms. Jane Stamler, Mrs. Caitlin Barkley, Mrs. Ashley Means, Mrs. Elizabeth Link, Ms. Christine Mittner, Mrs. Ann Ressler, Ms. Jennifer Newman, Ms. Courtney Dawson, Ms. Wendy Farrell along with her team, and Mr. Ken Roberts along with his team for their crucial support in turning this vision into reality. Furthermore, we recognize the generous contributions from AHN Westfield Memorial Hospital, Highmark Health, Refresco, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union, InnerLakes Federal Credit Union, Fidelis Care, and UPMC Chautauqua, which played a significant role in the success of this event. By embracing this year’s theme of “Together, We Can!”, we have made meaningful strides in fostering a more informed and connected community by bringing information, assistance and services to those who may face barriers in acquiring/gaining access to services.
