Breathe Life invites you to join them on Wednesday, January 4th at 3 p.m. at St. Stephen's for Game Day. To learn more about Game Day and supporting information please click here: https://5il.co/1mdqr

Day four of computer science education week continued with a day full of robotics in the STEM lab. Mrs. Tiberio and Mrs. Aniszewski's classes created and programmed Lego robots. Mrs. Liberator's class learned to use color and line coding to program Ozobots. Miss Bartok's class used play-based Cubetto robots for a tactile, screen free introduction to coding.
Why are children learning to code? Coding builds thinking skills, increases problem solving abilities, allows student to be creative, fosters collaboration, improves computational thinking, teaches digital literacy, prepares students for technology skills they may need in the future, and encourages persistence and perseverance.

Day four of computer science education week started with Miss Woltz's class creating computer programs for circuit playgrounds and building and coding drones.

Wednesday was day three of computer science education week. Mrs. Frost's class coded with Lego robotics kits. Mrs. Persch and Miss Tye’s classes played with Cubetto robots that are coded with physical code blocks for an unplugged, play based introduction to coding.

Wednesday was day three of computer science week. Mrs. First class coded with Lego robotics kits. Mrs. Persch and Miss Tye’s classes played with Cubettos robots that are coded with physical code blocks for an unplugged, play based introduction to coding.

Computer Science week means coding in Mrs. Zappie's Media classes! This week, we focus on Loops (repeat blocks) in our Java block code. They are bright pink and a coder's best friend...once they get in the habit of using them!
Take a look at some students using Loops!

Today was day two of Computer Science Education week. Mrs. Tamburlin's class used iPads to code Dash robots, making them walk, turn, talk, and dance. Ms. Hamlet's first grade learned to use color and line codes to program Ozobots with a holidays around the world theme.

December 5-11 is Computer Science Education Week. Brocton Elementary is celebrating this week through coding lessons with Mrs. Zappie in computer class and activities in the STEM lab that are introducing coding with robotics. Throughout the week classrooms will visit the STEM lab for an Hour of Code robotics activity. Today, Miss Glasier and Mrs. Mutch's classes coded with Ozobots. Mrs. Muck's class used Lego WeDo kits to build and code Lego robots. Mrs. Marvin's class programmed Circuit Playground electronics to light up and make sound and used coding to fly Airblock Drones.

The Brocton Central School District would like to thank all our volunteers on Volunteers Day!

The Brocton High School Rotary Interact Club will be hosting a bottle and can drive this Saturday, December 3rd from 9:00 AM until noon at the Bus Garage. All funds raised by the drive will be used for a local community service project called Preventive Angels. The club will be purchasing and wrapping gifts for a family in need this holiday season. Please help support the club's community service project.

The kindergarten classrooms participated in a distance learning event with other schools in the state of New York. The classes read a book called Turkey Trouble, a story about a turkey that disguises himself as a other animals. After the story, the children came up with other ideas of what the turkey could be disguised as and then in the STEM lab disguised paper turkeys using craft supplies. This week they video conferenced with a another school who did the same project and played a guess the turkey 20 questions game using coordinate grids with digital images of their turkeys. The classes also taught each other about their communities. Our students were surprised to learn that the one town (Elwood) from Long Island has a splash pad park! This BOCES sponsored project helped build communication skills through a project that integrated multiple subjects. Everyone had a great time and we are planning more distance learning and pen pal activities with our new kindergarten friends from across the state!

The second graders in Mrs. Zappie's Media Class are beginning to CODE using Java blocks. Techies in the making!

Don't forget middle and high school retakes are December 5th!

Happy Thanksgiving Brocton!

At the Board of Education meeting last Thursday, November 17th, Mr. Delcamp recognized Jenesis O. for November Middle School Student of the Month and Morgan W. for being November High School Student of the Month. Mr. Delcamp also recognized Ms. Christina Marsh for being Employee of the Month for November (not pictured). Congratulations to these individuals!

Today, November 15th, is School Related Professionals (SRP) Day. The Brocton Central School District would like to thank our well-deserved Teaching Assistants and Teacher Aides for their hard work helping educate our students, the Food Service Helpers who feed our students, the Bus Mechanic, Bus Drivers and Bus Aides who transport our students, the Maintenance and Custodial Staff for maintaining the school facilities, our Nurses for monitoring our students health, and the Administrative Assistants for administering the school offices. No doubt about it, our Brocton CSD’s SRP’s ROCK!

With respect, honor, and gratitude, Brocton CSD would like to thank its Veterans. Happy Veteran’s Day!

In Mrs. Zappie's Media classes, November is all about counting, adding, and subtracting for our primary students.
Today's Kindergarten students counted eggs on Elmo's farm and then got up and danced the Chicken Dance with him!

National STEM/STEAM day ended with fourth and fifth graders using Makey Makeys to create a human integrated circuit connected to a computer allowing them to make digital bongos play music or control characters in a soccer game. Many were surprised humans a conductive and can complete a circuit.
