This is a reminder that tomorrow, Thursday, March 20th, Inter-State Studios will be at the Brocton Central School District to take spring photographs for elementary students (PreK-5th grade) and for middle and high school spring sports.
The Brocton Central School District and the Southwestern Independent Living Center, Inc. extend their sincere gratitude to all who participated in the Family, School, and Community Connections Symposium and the Mobile Medical Unit Health and Wellness Event held on Friday, March 14, 2025. With 80 service providers, 94 programs, and 369 attendees, this event marks the largest free gathering of its kind in the history of Chautauqua County, New York.
This year's theme, “Together, We Can,” emphasizes our dedication to enhancing community well-being. Our goal is to provide essential resources and information to a diverse audience, including seniors, children, youth, new parents, veterans, school districts, grandparents, foster parents, librarians, churches, and social workers—many of whom may not have been aware of the support available to them.
We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to every service provider and guest speaker who generously shared their knowledge, enriching our community with invaluable insights. Our gratitude goes to Mr. Jason Delcamp, Miss Judy Wroda, Mrs. Melanie Ulinger, Ms. Jane Stamler, Mrs. Caitlin Barkley, Mrs. Ashley Means, Mrs. Elizabeth Link, Ms. Christine Mittner, Mrs. Ann Ressler, Ms. Jennifer Newman, Ms. Courtney Dawson, Ms. Wendy Farrell along with her team, and Mr. Ken Roberts along with his team for their crucial support in turning this vision into reality. The Brocton Elementary School is currently issuing registration packets for children eligible for the COI UPK3 program, universal Pre-K, and Kindergarten classes for the 2025-2026 school year. Along with the completed packets, a copy of your child’s birth certificate, documented immunization records and proof of residency is required. To be eligible for Pre-K, children must turn four on or before December 1, 2025. To be eligible for Kindergarten, children must turn five on or before December 1, 2025. You are cordially invited to the 7th Annual Southwestern Independent Living Center (S.I.L.C.) Family, School, and Community Connections Symposium, along with the Brocton Central School District Mobile Medical Unit Health and Wellness Fair, taking place today, March 14th. The event will begin at 7:30 AM with a complimentary breakfast, followed by over 78 providers sharing valuable insights in the High School Gymnasium starting at 8:00 AM. Mr. Jason Delcamp, Superintendent, will officially open the symposium at 8:50 AM. This free full-day event is designed to provide resources for diverse groups, including seniors, children, new parents, and veterans. It will be hosted at Brocton Central School District, located at 138 West Main Street, Brocton, NY, with parking available on School Street. On Wednesday, March 12th, the Middle and High School Students had the opportunity to watch SUNY Fredonia present Alicia's Lens: inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, this innovative adaptation follows Alicia, a determined young photographer, as she strives to complete her series for an upcoming exhibition in a prestigious gallery. Through her lens, she documents encounters with iconic characters from the novels, blending contemporary realism with Carroll’s whimsical world, encouraging both imaginative exploration and critical thinking. Mrs. Offenbach Smith's theater production class had the opportunity to meet with the cast for a behind the scenes look.
Each year, the Holocaust and Social Justice Education Program of Chautauqua County sponsors a multi-school Social Justice Education Trip to Washington, D.C. This year, thanks to the academic work in Mr. Mulcahy's History Through Film: A Human Rights Experience elective, 11 Brocton students had the opportunity to take part in this impactful three-day journey. This incredible experience was made possible by the generous funding of the Hebrew Congregation of the Chautauqua Institution.
The trip began with a visit to the National Archives, where students had the rare opportunity to view the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and the U.S. Constitution. Seeing these foundational documents up close provided a powerful reminder of the principles of freedom, democracy, and human rights that shape our nation—an essential starting point for our exploration of social justice.
At the heart of the trip was a focus on social justice, with visits to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the National Museum of African American History and Culture. These powerful exhibits provided students with profound insights into the injustices, discrimination, and resilience of marginalized communities throughout history.
Students also visited The People’s House: A White House Experience, an innovative educational museum that opened on September 23, 2024. Just one block from the White House, this exhibit tells the story of the Executive Mansion, its residents, and the dedicated individuals who have served within it. Another highlight of the trip was an engaging discussion at the United States Institute of Peace, where students learned about the organization's mission to promote global stability, prevent conflict, and keep America safe from international threats.
Reflecting on the trip, Mr. Mulcahy shared: "This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students. Their appetite for learning was truly inspiring, and they represented Brocton with incredible curiosity, respect, and engagement. It was an unforgettable experience that will leave a lasting impact on their understanding of history and social justice!"
This is a reminder that as per the district calendar, there will be no school for students tomorrow, Friday, March 14, 2025. However, staff members are expected to report for Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Yesterday was the last day of the fourth grade Minecraft Club. The third grade Minecraft Club will being Tuesday March 25.
Our New York Food for New York Families program begins this week, starting TODAY, with distribution in Jamestown, Dunkirk, and Ripley.
This program is first come, first served, and does not require ID or income documentation. A limited number of boxes are available. Each box will contain NY-grown and locally raised products, including produce, meats, dairy, and baked goods. If you have questions, do not hesitate to reach out.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM for all grades.
Friday, March 14, 2025:
Parent-Teacher Conferences will occur from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM for all grades.
Parking will be available at the main parking lot/building entrances of the Brocton Central School District for parents.

In celebration of Read Across America Week and Dr. Seuss Day, kindergarteners listened to the story A Great Day for Up, practiced rhyming with "up" words, and then built cup parachutes for Dr. Seuss characters.
As part of a plant unit, first graders participated in a Fairy Tale STEM activity about the tale Jack and the Beanstalk. After reading the story and discussing what plants like the beanstalk need to grow, the students planted their own beans in soil. They will try to grow their beanstalks high enough to reach the castles they made and placed on a stick in the cup of soil.

Parent Teachers conferences are a time to privately discuss your child’s academics, therefore we are pleased to announce that we will provide child care services in the Elementary Library during this time.
Should you have no other option but to bring your child(ren) for Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday, March 13 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm or Friday, March 14 from 8:30am - 11:30am, please drop them off in the Elementary Library before your scheduled conference and pick them up immediately following your meeting.
Child care services are for child(ren) aged 3-12 only. Thank you for your cooperation on this important matter.
To help us celebrate Music in Our Schools Month, let's take a look back at last month's CCMTA Winter Festival. This annual festival was hosted this year by Chautauqua Lake Central School. Brocton Students attended and participated in the Elementary Band, the Treble Chorus, and the Jazz Ensemble. Our very own Brocton Elementary general music educator Marjorie Bohn directed the All-County Treble Chorus. Let's hear it for our students who were selected to these honors ensembles!
