Yesterday evening, December 20th, at the Board of Education meeting, Mrs. Antolina recognized Lyle M. for being the December Middle School Student of the Month (not pictured). Mrs. Antolina recognized Austin M. for being December High School Student of the Month (pictured). Mr. Delcamp and Mr. Mead-Colegrove recognized Mrs. Laurie Skinner for being Employee of the Month for December (pictured). Congratulations to all of these individuals!

Happy winter solstice! And learning about and celebrating the winter solstice this week, the kindergarten classes made Yule logs.

The STEM Club held its annual Battle Bots competition. Pairs of students followed the engineering process and built armor for Sphero Bolt robots. Then they used iPads to program the robots to battle. The object of the activity was to knock off your opponents' armor. Grade levels competed against each other and the winner of each grade level competed for grand champion...but the bot armor and programming who so well designed we had a tie for grand champion!

Congratulations to our Novemberr Successmaker Reading class of the month and students of the month. The class of the month with the most average gain in Successmaker was Mrs. Mutch's Second Grade. The following students were the grade level Successmaker, students a month for having the most personal gain in the program during the month of November: Taylyn Moffit, Wyatt Carlson, Gianna Himan, Dean Ransom, and Ronald Powless. Eva Nickerson had the most time in the program for the month of November. The students of the month played Plinko for prizes. The class of the month earned a free ice cream or other treat from the cafeteria.

Elementary students were assisted by high school volunteers on Friday while they shopped for thier families for free at our annual Santa's Secret Workshop. All items for students were provided by the Brocton Booster Club. Thank you to the Brocton Booster Club, Mrs. Parra, Mr. Shields, Ms. Newman, and the high school student volunteers who helped organize and assist in providing this opportunity to our elementary students.

This is a friendly reminder that the Brocton Central School District will begin Winter Recess December 22nd, 2023, and end on January 1st, 2024. Classes will resume on January 2nd, 2024.

There will be an early dismissal on Thursday, December 21st, 2023. Middle and High School students along with Pre-K students, will be dismissed at 11 AM, Elementary students will be dismissed at 12 PM.

Ornament Day in Mrs. Mutch's Second Grade Classroom

The third grade also Dash-ed through the holidays for Computer Science Education Week. They were creative with Makerspace materials and turned their robots into reindeer. Then they coded the robots to "bowl." They explored speed, measurement, angles, and loops to find the most effective way to program their robots.

Our students working hard to create pet supply donation boxes! Please send in cat toys, towels, small blankets, pet food, litter, etc. to help fill our boxes. Pet donation boxes are located in the Elementary Office and in many classrooms!

The Prek have also been learning a little bit about coding with robots for Computer Science Education Week. While playing with Sphero Indi car robots, they learned the very basics of coding while also practicing color recognition, cause and effect, and directional vocabulary.

NOTICE: The Board of Education of the Brocton Central School District has its Special Board Meeting on December 13, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room.

The fourth grade is Dash-ing throught he holidays with Dash robots for Computer Science Education Week. These students learned to program the Dash robots to help "deliver gifts" to houses along a neighborhood path they built. During the activity they learned more about coding, writing and modifying algorithms, and had to use math skills such as measurement and geometry (angles).

The Holiday Extravaganza is the Senior Class of 2024 parent sponsored fundraiser with support from the community and Vendors! The class of 2024 would like to invite everyone to join in the fun filled afternoon!

Tis the season, Brocton! On the morning of December 18th, between the hour of 9:30 and 10:30, the Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders will be performing in a holiday concert. This concert will feature singing, dancing, musical instruments, and many more spectacles. Join us in the auditorium for plenty of good cheers!

The kindergarten learned to code with Indi car robots for Computer Science Education week. As part of this activity, they had to practice reading color words and then find the color square to use to program the robot to drive, turn, spin, and stop.

Mrs. Tamburlin's class learned to program Sphero Bolt robots today as part of Computer Science Education Week.
