Guidance News—Juniors—Class of 2020
Welcome to your junior year at Brocton Central School. We hope that every one of you has a successful and enjoyable year. This newsletter outlines some of the activities you should be involved with early this year. You should also check out the school’s website www.broctoncsd.org then go to MENU at the very top, then SECONDARY SCHOOL, then drop down to GUIDANCE. Remember that you are always welcome at the Guidance Office to discuss your future educational and career plans. We will meet with you as a group and individually soon after school starts. Suggested Timeline for Junior Students:
September 21 Attend the College Consortium at BCS at 1:30 pm on Friday in our cafeteria. Participating Colleges: Admissions representative from the following 20 Western New York area will be available to discuss academic majors, housing, tuition, financial aid, student activities, and the application process. Alfred State, Buffalo State, Canisius, Daeman, D’Youville, Erie Community, Fredonia State, Genesee Community College, Bryant & Stratton, Alfred University, Hilbert College, Houghton College, Medaille College, Niagara Community College, Niagara University. St. Bonaventure University, Trocaire, University at Buffalo, and Villa Maria College. Of course your parents are invited.
October 10 PSAT/NMSQT Test, Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. Helps students prepare for the SAT Exam and to enter the National Merit Scholarship competition. See handout for additional information and sample questions. For more information visit www.collegeboard.org.
October 17 JCC College and Career Night 6:30-8:00 p.m.: Representatives from over 60 colleges, universities and career areas will be available to talk to students about their future plans.
November 10 1:00 p.m. JCC Open House. Explore JCC—Fall Open House at Jamestown Campus (Hamilton Collegiate Center), Saturday, November 10. Learn about academic programs, scholarships, internships, financial aid, transfer opportunities and more during JCC’s Open House. Meet with admission representatives, faculty and financial aid staff to get the information you need for your college career. Register at www.sunyjcc.edu/admissions. If you prefer to go to the JCC North County Campus Open House in Dunkirk, it will be held in their Training Center on Oct. 13.
College representatives will periodically schedule visits to meet with students here at BCS. Watch for their displays in the hall by the auditorium on the way to the cafeteria. The college visit date and time will be announced in advance. If you are interested in meeting with a college representative, get a pass from the Guidance Office before the scheduled visit.
